Pilates Mat combines all ranges of spinal movements and builds core strength and suppleness. A compliment to strength training or a stand alone dose of mobility and body weight work. Armature has a Pilates Mat Open every weekday at 9.15am as well as 8.00am on Saturdays. The instructors all teach with their own speciality and style, some focusing more on strength, some more on flow and relaxation. Ask us for recommendations, if needed!
Group Classes
Pilates Mat
Focus on technique, plain and simple.
343A Lygon Street is where Armature all began. It’s nickname isn’t Armature HQ for nothing! Our custom built mat room has classes that focus on bodyweight/functional movement alongside the more flowing and dynamic work of the Pilates method.
Mat classes are great pre-requisites or simultaneous preparation for more loaded strength training. Classes are open to all levels and everyone is always welcome to work at their own pace.

Pilates Release & Restore
Using foam rollers and myotherapy tools to relax and invigorate muscles, these classes combine passive release techniques with active mobility and flow. They are restorative and calming and a great antidote to strength work that hypes up the nervous system.
Pilates Release & Restore is on at the civilised and comfortable time of 10.3oam on Fridays and Saturdays.
Pilates Springboard
More than a mat class, Springboard provides spring-loaded resistance from the wall. Exercises are similar to those on the reformer and trapeze table, meaning there are lots of options for modifications and progressions. And infinite variety of exercises!
Class is limited to eight participants and has a vibe closer to the personalised studio, as the intimate nature means that there is more (even more than usual!) emphasis on form and technique unique to the Pilates method.
Pilates Springboard is at 8.30am Saturdays.
Pilates Prenatal
For prenatal clients at all stages of pregnancy (although most participants are 18 plus weeks), this class is fully suitable for prenatal bodies and focuses on upper back and hip strength, spinal mobility in all planes and pelvic floor health/awareness. It makes use of the springboards and other small props and happens at 9.30am on Saturdays. Postnatal clients also welcome as a bridge back into group classes.
Yoga – Slow Flow
A special 70 minute Sunday morning (10.00am) class with an invigorating yet still restorative flow as well as meditation and breath work. Taught by a yoga specialist, it will set you up for the week ahead.
Yoga Slow Flow is suitable for all levels and pregnancy.
