Armature starts as a dance studio for hire and has some casual mat classes
Armature, formally Armature Pilates, is 20 years old. Started in 2006 when the only coffee in Brunswick was Covo Sportivo (next door to us), the business has grown into a multi-pronged beauty, servicing clients across all ages ranges, demograpics and abilities.
Armed with only her Pilates certification and Michael’s building, Stephanie thought she would give having a studio a try and the rest, as they say, is history. With no business plan and not much capital, Armature started as a bespoke Personalised Pilates studio and soon ventured into mat classes (which were just taking off in Melbourne around 2007). Later, in 2013, when she was hearing rumbles about a new thing called Group Reformer classes, Stephanie decided to get in early, beat the masses and start one of those! Alongside all that, the interest in Strength Training was always brewing. Before Armature had its purpose-built Strength venue, Stephanie was running Push/Pull short courses in a corner of the Pilates venue. It took a while for Strength Training to catch on, but now the demand for it equals the Pilates.
While Armature stays true to its roots, and is a little bit old-school, still rough and ready and not caught up in the latest fitness fads, it has also very much evolved from its early beginnings. Instructors stay on top of new research and teaching methods; new class styles are added or adapted and the next generation, including some of our clients now-grown-up children, train with us.
We can proudly say we are a multi-generational community, we keep on ticking on. Slow and steady always wins the race!
